Government holidays are legal holidays set aside for use by federal employees by the US Congress. Many individuals want to get together with family and friends on holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Independence Day, but not all employees get these days off work. Private companies are not required by law to offer their staff paid time off on federal holidays. So, you should know about the complete list of US federal holidays 2023.

Employees of the federal government get paid holidays. The government observes any federal holidays that fall on a Saturday or Sunday in lieu of the closest weekday because the majority of government offices are closed on weekends. Federal holidays that fall on Saturday are celebrated on the preceding Friday. And the federal holidays that fall on Sunday will be celebrated on the following Monday.

Please be aware that Washington’s Birthday is the term used by the federal government to refer to Presidents’ Day, which commemorates George Washington.

The official New Year’s Day public holiday, January 1, 2023, falls on a Sunday. For purposes of pay and leave, Monday, January 2, will be regarded as a holiday for the majority of Federal workers.
